New Immunization Requirements for 2008-09 

Dear Parents / Guardians: 

The Allegheny County Health Department has established new school vaccination requirements, beginning in the 2008-2009 school year.  These requirements affect all students in grades K-12.  The requirements are listed below (new requirements are in bold type): 

Grades K-12

  • 4 doses of tetanus and diphtheria vaccines (one dose after the 4th birthday): 3 doses are required if the series was started after 7 years of age

  • 3 doses of polio vaccine

  • 2 doses of measles vaccine (usually given as MMR)

  • 2 doses of mumps vaccine (usually given as MMR)

  • 1 dose of rubella vaccine (usually given as MMR)

  • 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine

  • 2 doses of varicella (chicken pox) vaccine, or written statement from physician indicating month and year of disease, or serologic proof of immunity (blood test)

Grades 7-12

  • 1 dose of tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine  (Tdap)

  • 1 dose of meningitis vaccine

Make sure your child’s shots are updated, and that PALO receives a copy of the current doctor’s office immunization record before the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year.
